Read More BACKGROUND: Delay in the diagnosis and management of obstetric complications lead to raisedmortality rate. This can be curtailed by appropriate implementation of the educational interventionamong the health‑care providers. Hence, this review aimed to identify the literature evidence of theefficacy of various educational interventions training in the management of obstetric complications.MATERIALS AND METHODS: We searched PUBMED, Web of Science, SCOPUS, Google Scholar,Cochrane, and maternity care databases with studies published from 2011 to 2021 for identifyingstudies related to this educational intervention review using MeSH terms and free terms. The searchprocess was also done on the websites of the World Health Organization and the reproductive healthlibrary in the English language. From the 1823 abstracts reviewed, 16 studies were included (15quasi‑experimental, 01 randomized clinical trial, and 01 exploratory research design). We identifiedstudies that included skill assessment of nurses, midwives, auxilliary nurse‑midwives (ANMs), medicalstudents, interns, and doctors after implementing various educational interventions.RESULTS: According to the findings of this literature, achieving enhanced nursing management ofobstetric complications has been developed. Especially, it suggests through better nursing trainingand education and also by providing sufficient resources, time, and coordination with obstetricspecialists, nurses and midwives will be able to implement their care roles, which include properdiagnosis, appropriate intervention, advanced care, client education, and psychological support. Theefficacy of each educational intervention varies and depends on the participants’ understanding,interest, and the advancement of the teaching‑learning method used.CONCLUSION: This systematic review reveals abroad and logical move towards the evaluation ofvarious educational interventions in the field of obstetric complications. Among all the educationalinterventions implemented, mobile application, and simulation‑based training play a major rolein improving the knowledge and skills of health‑care providers in the management of obstetriccomplications.

Read More One of the most commonly used methods for training is simulation. It is important to examine theeffects of simulation training of health information systems on the knowledge, attitude, and skill intrainees. This review provided a summary of relevant literature on how simulation training affectsthe learning of health information systems and determine the features and functional capabilitiesof existing simulators. Studies and websites using simulation training to teach health informationsystems were included. Studies were searched through Medline (via PubMed), Scopus, and ISI Webof Science and websites through Google search by the end of 2019. The characteristics of studies,features, and functional capabilities of simulators and effects on learning outcomes were extracted.The included studies and websites were categorized according to different characteristics includingsimulation types, learning outcome categories, and the effects of simulation training on learningoutcomes. The learning outcomes were categorized into four groups: knowledge, attitude, skill, andsatisfaction. The effects of interventions on outcomes were categorized into statistically significantpositive, positive without statistical argument, no effect (not statistically significant), negative withoutstatistical argument, or statistically significant negative. Ten studies and eight websites that usedsimulation training to teach health information systems (mainly electronic health record [EHR])were included. EHR simulation was performed in 80% of the included studies and trainees in 70%of studies were physicians and nurses. All studies were conducted in three developed countries. Inthe included studies, four learning outcomes (i.e. skill, attitude, knowledge, and satisfaction) wereassessed. Ninety percent of the included studies assessed skill‑related outcomes, with more than halfmentioning significant improvement. Thirty percent of the included studies assessed outcomes‑relatedknowledge and attitude, all of which reported the positive effects of simulation training. The simulatorsoffered a variety of functional capabilities, while all of which simulated the clinical data entry process.In teaching health information systems, especially EHRs, simulation training enhances skill, attitude,knowledge, and satisfaction of health‑care providers and students.

Read More BACKGROUND: Simulation‑based training is an important strategy for skill development in acompetency‑based curriculum, especially so for laparoscopic surgery given its unique learning curve,need for practice, and patient safety concerns. The study was conducted for postgraduates in twosurgical disciplines in a medical college tertiary care center. The study evaluates the acceptability andutility of structured simulation‑based training for laparoscopic skills. Simulations provide deliberatepractice in the leaner supportive environment.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The educational intervention was carried out among the 16postgraduates from year 2 and year 3 of general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology. A structuredtraining and assessment module was designed and validated, and a 12‑week structured trainingon laparoscopic box trainers was given to postgraduates under faculty guidance. Feedbackfrom postgraduates and faculty was obtained using separate validated questionnaires. Thepre‑ and post‑training assessment scores were compared applying the Wilcoxon matched‑pairssigned‑rank (2‑tailed) test using the SPSS Windows Version 20.0 (IBM Corporation).RESULTS: Sixteen postgraduates participated in the study. The median satisfaction score of thepostgraduates was 4 (range 3–5), a scale of a maximum of 5. The group identified faculty feedback,stepwise skills learning, supportive learning environment, and trainers’ motivation as enabling factorsin the training. The faculty observed that the trainees were effectively engaged. The group meanimprovement scores in percentage were 40.08 for task 1, 42.08 for task 2, 43.13 for task 3, and45.63 for task 4.CONCLUSIONS: It is feasible to incorporate faculty‑guided sessions of simulation training in basiclaparoscopy skills for postgraduates in our setup. It is well accepted by the key stakeholders, andwe recommend it to be incorporated in the formal training program.
