Read More BACKGROUND: This exploratory study was done to assess the multidimensional perfectionismtrends among various core and allied health care professionals in a major Indian metropolitan city ofwestern India. Unlike other scales, here we considered both individual and intersubjective componentsof perfectionism by introducing three trait dimensions – self‑oriented perfectionism, other‑orientedperfectionism, and socially prescribed perfectionism.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross‑sectional descriptive type of study was conducted with totalsample consisting of 500 participants with the main motive of evaluation and comparison of themultidimensional perfectionism among interns of the core and allied health care professionals fromfields of medicine, dentistry, ayurveda, and homeopathy residing in the major Indian metropolitancities of western India.RESULTS: This study showed that under the self‑oriented domain, highest mean score is of medicalfaculty (73.97). In other‑oriented domain, dental (62.62) and homeopathy (62.38) professionals havealmost similar mean. Lowest being of ayurveda (61.65) compared to the highest score of the medicalfraternity (67.62). In the socially prescribed domain, medical professionals (65.53) have the highestmean though it is the lowest mean value of the medical faculty compared to other two domains.Chi‑square test is applied to the data for the questions among all the three domains. Correlation hasbeen deduced by applying Pearson’s correlation to the collected data from the study. The degree ofcorrelation between self‑oriented with self‑oriented is 1, self‑oriented with other‑oriented is 0.763,and that of self‑oriented with socially oriented is 0.678.CONCLUSION: Medical professionals scoring maximum in self‑oriented perfectionism compared toother two domains reflect their extreme personal standards. Medical professionals are followed bydental professionals in self oriented perfectionism who are demanded of perfection in their routinepractice. Ayurveda and homeopathy professionals scored better in other‑oriented and sociallyprescribed perfectionism attributing to their sentiments of fulfilling the expectations and demandsof others.

Read More INTRODUCTION: As a part of healthcare providers of the Health System Reform Program, midwivesare required to master the necessary knowledge and skills to meet the related demands of society.This study was aimed to assess the knowledge and skills training needs of practicing midwives ofhealth and medical centers of Isfahan.METHODS: This study is a descriptive cross-sectional study. The statistical target population wasmidwifery experts working in Isfahan health centers and the samples were selected through simplerandom sampling (sample size 250). Data were collected by two questionnaires to assess knowledgeand skill needs. The validity of the questionnaires was confirmed by experts of the province andcity health centers and medical education experts and its reliability was calculated by Cronbach’salpha (98%). Data were analyzed using SPSS 23 software and descriptive and analytical statisticalmethods (frequency, mean, variance).RESULTS: The first five knowledge training priorities of employed midwives in health and medicalcenters, which comprise most of the means values, are pregnancy complications and abnormalities(3.64 ± 1.21); mammography and its interpretation (64.3 ± 1.30); skills and principles of parenting(3.59 ± 1.24); shortness of breath and palpitations during pregnancy (3.58 ± 1.16); and commonmental disorders (3.57 ± 1.16). The most important skills training needs were Excel (1.21 ± 3.59),PowerPoint (27.1 ± 54.3), internet (3.52 ± 1.25), and parameters registration and reporting in the SIBsystem (3.49 ± 1.28). Employed midwives of the health and medical centers displayed a significantdifference in feeling the need for training in some subjects.CONCLUSION: Needs assessment is the foundation of purposeful training, and better training leadsto improved performance of personnel and organizations. Therefore, it is imperative that reliableand documented data be utilized for promotion and improvement of in-service training programsof employed midwives of the health and medical centers of Isfahan province and also for revisinguniversity curriculums. Taking these measures would lead to the empowerment of personnel andgeneral development of society.

Read More Introduction: Medical errors in hospitals kill more people every year than AIDS, breast cancer andauto accidents combined. Widespread consensus exists that health care organizations can reducepatient injuries by improving the environment for safety from implementing different alternativesfrom technical and managerial improvements to considering medical record data. Consideringthe preventability of medical errors, the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research (AHRQ)developed patient safety indicators (PSIs). This study analyzes the PSIs calculated in AlzahraHospital of Isfahan. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted retrospectively using theinpatient medical record data of hospitalized patients in a six month period, from October 2010to March 2011. An experienced team in the fields of medical record, health management andhealth information technology was involved in data reviewing. Based on a prior consultation andreviewing, some PSIs were selected. Indicators were calculated considering AHRQ guidelines.Excel software and hospital information system software were used. Results: Across all studiedmedical records of patients, out of 25,164 discharges, below measures were calculated.‑8 Foreign Body cases (PSI 5) (0.31 per 1000).‑30 Postoperative Hemorrhage or Hematoma cases (PS I9) (2.2 per 1000).‑5 Accidental Puncture or Laceration cases (PSI 15) (0.3 per1000).‑8 Complications of Anesthesia cases (PSI 1) (2.2 per 1000).‑96 Selected Infections Due to Medical Care cases (PSI 7) (3.8 per1000).‑17 cases of Postoperative Wound Dehiscence (PSI 14) (3.7per1000).‑1 Birth Trauma – Injury to Neonate case, and (PSI 17) (1.7 per 1000).‑18 Obstetric Trauma – Cesarean Delivery cases (PSI 20) (40 per 1000) were flagged bystudied PSIs developed by AHRQ.Conclusion: Comparing with the reported rates by other studies and AHRQ study in 2006, allof calculated indicators have inadequate condition; i.e. these are far from empirical estimatedrates. The hospital administrators should be more sensitive to this issue and perform someimprovement programs.
