Read More BACKGROUND: Information technology (IT) can be used by frontline health workers (FLWs) toconnect and deliver care to the community. Various studies in India have assessed the beneficialimpact of IT usage by FLWs, but for the long‑term sustainability, the attitude and belief toward ITusage have not been adequately studied. We conducted this study to assess the knowledge andattitude and to explore the beliefs of FLWs toward the use of IT in a rural area of Haryana.MATERIALS AND METHODS: We conducted a mixed‑method study (qualitative and quantitativeapproach) in a rural setting of Haryana, India. We included FLWs of two primary health centers (PHCs).Data were collected from October 19, 2020 to December 31, 2020. We collected data from 75 accreditedsocial health activists (ASHAs), 37 Anganwadi workers (AWWs), 28 multi‑purpose workers (MPWs),two information assistants, and two medical officers using a semi‑structured interview schedule. Theirknowledge about the benefits of IT use, past use of IT applications and devices, and self‑rating ofknowledge regarding computers or laptops were collected. We used 14 attitude statements, each witha five‑point Likert scale to assess the attitude; a total score ≥35 was considered a positive attitude.We conducted eight focus group discussions (FGDs) to explore the beliefs regarding IT usage (fourFGDs with ASHAs, two FGDs with AWWs, and two FGDs with MPWs). A descriptive analysis wasperformed for the quantitative data, and a thematic analysis was performed for qualitative data.RESULTS: Knowledge about the benefits of IT use was present among 77.8% of FLWs. Amongthe FLWs, 79.2% self‑rated their knowledge of computers/laptops as ‘do not have knowledge’, 16%self‑rated as ‘low knowledge’, and 4.8% self‑rated as ‘good knowledge’. The median total score forattitude statements among all the FLWs (n = 144) was 54 [inter‑quartile range – 48–59]. Four themesemerged for beliefs toward IT usage, namely, positive beliefs, negative beliefs, challenges anticipatedin adopting IT use, and facilitation factors. The positive beliefs were related to improvement in workefficiency and social status, less paperwork, timely report generation, and better learning. The negativebeliefs were related to an increase in working hours, close monitoring, and feeling over‑burdened.CONCLUSION: We found that FLWs had knowledge regarding the benefits of IT use, but theylacked knowledge regarding laptop/computer use. They had a satisfactory level of confidence inusing smartphones, and most of them were using mobile applications. The majority of the FLWs hada positive attitude and beliefs toward IT use and wanted to use it in the future.

Read More BACKGROUND: The motivation to seek health information on the Internet for individuals has beenvaried. The purpose of this paper was to explore the perspectives and experiences about onlinehealth information seeking in information technology (IT) professionals.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A qualitative case study research design was employed to examinethe behavior of 15 IT professionals from a state organization in the East Coast of the United Statesof America. Convenience sampling was used to identify the setting, and purposeful sampling wasused to select the participants. A survey questionnaire was used as a recruitment tool, and in‑depthindividual interviews with standardized semi‑structured questions were used to collect data.RESULTS: Findings illustrated that the Internet was the first source of reference for wellness andprevention information to maintain a healthy lifestyle, and to alleviate and prevent work‑relatedmusculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs). The themes that emerged from the study were that the ITprofessionals searched the Internet for information to self‑educate about medical conditions, tomaintain fitness, communicate with health‑care professionals, decide their treatment options, and tomake lifestyle modifications such as ergonomic adjustment of their workstation, postural adjustments,and changing negative health behaviors.CONCLUSION: The results of this study provide practical implications for organizations and healthprofessionals in providing health education to prevent WMSDs as participants sought healthinformation online to take actions and collaborate with their health‑care professionals and activelycontributed to their medical health decisions. This underscores a valuable opportunity for health‑careproviders and public health officials to become more proactive by providing their patients with qualityhealth information outside their office through the Internet by referring them to credible websitesources.

Considering key contributions of knowledge management incompetitiveness of organizations and their entry into global arenas, this study sought to evaluate theimpact of different aspects of intellectual property on innovations in computer and health informationsystem (HIS) units at selected medical center in the city of Isfahan during 2015.OBJECTIVES: The present study seeks to evaluate the impact of different aspects of intellectualproperty on innovations in computer and HIS units at selected medical centers in the city of Isfahanduring 2015 (2015).SETTINGS AND DESIGN: Population of this research includes staff working in computer and HIS unitsof 10 medical centers. Data were collected using a questionnaire made by the researcher. A writtenquestionnaire (also referred to as self‑administered questionnaire) is a data collection tool in whichwritten questions are presented that are to be answered by study individuals, where for the case ofthe present study include staff members working at computer and HIS units of 10 medical centers.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In the first stage, medical factors were determined by experts ofIsfahan University of Medical Sciences as intellectual property. Factors were then distributed randomlyamong 100 employees during a survey, after considering their validity and reliability.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS: Descriptive and inferential statistics were used for data analysis.RESULTS: Data analysis showed that innovation is one of the most important indicators of intellectualcapital in computer and HIS units of medical centers and has a higher than average importance.CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study, in addition to providing guidelines in the management ofintellectual capital in Isfahan province hospitals, can be used as a model for improving innovation inhospitals and understanding various factors affecting organizational innovation.

Read More Background: Many changes have been made in different sciences by developing and advancinginformation and communication technology in last two decades. E‑health is a very broad term thatincludes many different activities related to the use of electronic devices, software as well as hardwarein health organizations. Aims: The aim of this study is comparing electronic health indicators in theselected countries and discussion on the best indicators. Settings and Design: This study haschosen 12 countries randomly based on the regional division of the WHO. The relevant numbersof health indicators and general indicators and information technology indicators are extractedof these countries. We use data from the Bitarf’s comparative study, which is conducted by theIranian Supreme Council of Information Technology in 2007. Materials and Methods: By usingPearson correlation test, the relations between health general indicators and IT indicators arestudied. Statistical Analysis Used: Data was analyzed based on the research objectives usingSPSS software and in accordance with research questions Pearson correlation test were used.Results: The findings show that there is a positive relation between indicators related to IT and“Total per capita health, healthy life expectancy, percent literacy”. Furthermore, there is a mutualrelation between IT indicators and “mortality indicator”. Conclusion: This study showed differencesbetween selective indicators among different countries. The modern world, with its technologicaladvances, is not powerless in the face of these geographic and health disparity challenges.Researchers must not rely on the available indicators. They must consider indicators like e‑businesscompanies, electronic data internet, medical supplies, health electronic record, health informationsystem, etc., In future, continuous studies in this field, to provide the exact and regular reports ofamount of using of these indicators through different countries must be necessary.
