Read More Backgrounds: Marriages and establishing a family is one of the most important events in thelife of each person. It has significant effects on personal and social health, if it occurs withsufficient knowledge in the proper conditions. The aim of this study is to determine the effectof pre‑marriage instruction on the knowledge and health attitudes of the couples attending thepre‑marriage counseling classes. Materials and Methods: This pre and post quasi‑experimentalstudy was conducted on 250 couples attending the pre‑marriage counseling classes. Therequired information was collected using an autonomous questionnaire designed based onthe research objectives. The questionnaire included three parts: Demographic information,knowledge (27 questions) and attitude (18 questions. The questionnaire was filled out beforeand after the pre‑marriage counseling program, which was presented as lectures. The effectof the instructional program was analyzed using a statistical test. Results: The results showedthat 83.2% of the couples had poor knowledge, 16% average, and 0.8% had good knowledgebefore the intervention. After the intervention, 60.4% of couples had poor knowledge, 31.6%average and 8% had good knowledge. The results also revealed that that the difference inmean scores of knowledge and attitudes regarding reproductive health, family planning, geneticdiseases and disabilities was statistically significant (P < 0.001). Conclusions: Despite themean scores of knowledge and attitude of the couples had increased after the instructionalintervention, the increase in knowledge level was not very high. So the knowledge score ofthe couples increased just 4.3%, and only 8% of the couples had good knowledge after theinstructional intervention. Therefore, to achieve a relatively stable behavior change in individualsand improving the health level of the young couples, it is recommended that more attentionpay to the quality of the instructional classes.

Read More Introduction: Regular physical activity has positive effects on physical, mental and socialaspects of individual and community health. Considering the prevalence of noncommunicablediseases such as primary hypertension, osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases for whichsedentary lifestyle is a responsible factor, health policy makers have planned to encouragepeople to do more physical activities. Development of beneficial health habits during childhoodand early adolescence are very important because the behaviors, which start at adolescencetend to continue into adulthood, too. This study aimed to determine the effect of educationalintervention on physical activity-related knowledge, attitude and behavior of the first gradestudents in male high schools of Bavanat in 2010. Materials and Methods: In this prospectiveexperimental study, after selecting two qualified schools from five high schools, all students ofone school (two classes including 42 individuals) were randomly assigned to the experimentalgroup and all the students of another high school (two classes including 43 individuals) wererandomly assigned to the control group. The data gathering tool was a 4-section questionnairewhich included demographic questions, knowledge- and attitude-related questions and thequestionnaire of physical activity performance. The first three sections of the questionnairewere the researcher-designed and validated by face and content validity. Test-retest and internalconsistency (Cronbach’s Alpha) methods were used to determine the reliability of knowledgequestionnaire and attitude questionnaire, respectively. For the measurement of physical activitybehavior, a self-reporting questionnaire (valid and reliable Garcia scale) was used in this study.After conducting the pretest, the educational intervention was done for the experimental group.Post-tests were conducted immediately and 1 month after intervention. The collected data wereanalyzed using SPSS18 statistical software (independent t-test, paired t-test, chi-square, MannWhitney test and repeated measures ANOVA). The participants voluntarily and consciouslyparticipated in this study. Results: The findings indicated no significant differences between thegroups in terms of mean scores of knowledge(P = 0.934), attitude (P = 0.155) and behavior(P = 0.387) before the intervention. Therewas a significant difference between meanscores of knowledge in the immediatefollow-up (P< 0.001) and 1 month afterintervention follow-up (P < 0.001), and alsobetween mean scores of attitude immediately(P < 0.001) and 1 month after intervention(P = 0.01) follow-ups in the experimentalgroup compared with the control one. Meanscores of physical activity 1 month after theintervention in both experimental and control groups significantly increased (P < 0.001, P = 0.01, respectively), but the mean scores ofphysical activity between two groups were not significantly different (P = 0.390). Discussion andConclusion: The results indicated the effectiveness of educational intervention, consequentlyincreased knowledge and improved attitude of students, in the experimental group comparedwith the control one in terms of physical activities; thus, physical activity behavior of interventiongroup increased. Although the mean scores of physical activity in the control group significantlyincreased, other studies should be done which can control and consider confounding variables.

Read More Background: To achieve stable social development, the cooperation of all members of acommunity is basically required. Providing and improving the health standard is one ofthe most fundamental dimensions of human social evolution. This is more essential thanthe other aspects of development (public cooperation demands) and health volunteersare the forerunners of this cooperation, who have voluntarily set about having the publicparticipate in providing and elevating the level of community health. The present studyaimed to determine the effect of implementing “the health communication plan” by healthvolunteers in suburban villages regarding the health knowledge and attitude of ruralwomen. Materials and Methods: In this quasi‑experimental study, knowledge and attitudeof 121 females (age 15–49 years), who were under the supervision of health centers infour suburban villages (the case group), before and after performing the health volunteerplan, were compared to those of 94 females (age 15–49 years) in another group of foursuburban villages (the control group) lacking health volunteers under the care service oftwo rural health centers. Data gathering instrument was questionnaires and interviews. Theobtained data were analyzed by SPSS (ver. 11.5) using statistical paired t‑test and Signtest. P≤0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results: The study showed thatthe mean of rural women’s health knowledge and attitude had increased and there was asignificant difference between before intervention and after intervention values in the twogroups (P<0.001). Comparing the averages of the two groups also revealed a significantdifference (P<0.001). Conclusions: According to the findings and the positive effects ofperforming suburban health volunteer plan on the health knowledge and attitude of ruralwomen, it would therefore be important to suggest that suburban health volunteers arevery helpful and effective in improving the knowledge and attitude level of rural women.In brief; as a direct result of their health performance, performing the plan all over ruralhealth centers is recommended.
