Read More BACKGROUND: Graduates’ job performance has become a matter that needs urgent attention.This is because many stakeholders are increasingly becoming interested in understanding theextent schools are able to produce output that meets the yearnings of society. Along these lines, weexamined the contributions of alcohol intake to the job performance of higher education graduateswhile treating mental stress and psychotic experiences as mediators in the nexus.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study's population comprised all the graduates of higher educationinstitutions in Nigeria between 2015 and 2020. Data were collected from a virtual cross‑section of3,862 graduates who self‑reported to have taken alcohol in the past. These participants respondedto an electronic questionnaire that was mailed to them. The scale content validity for clarity andrelevance were 0.90 and 0.88, respectively, while the Cronbach alpha reliability estimate of theinstrument is 0.86.RESULTS: Amongst many others, key findings indicate that alcohol intake, mental stress andpsychotic experiences jointly made a significant negative contribution to the overall job performance ofgraduates (R2 = 0.256, 95% confidence interval (CI) [0.23, 0.28], P = 0.00). Mental stress (B = −0.09, β= −0.14, z = −4.45, 95%CI [−0.24, −0.05], P = 0.00) and psychotic experiences (B = −0.26, β = −0.43,z = −8.07, 95%CI [−0.68, −0.16], P = 0.01) have significant negative contributions to graduates’ jobperformance, respectively. Alcohol intake and mental stress jointly predict the psychotic experiencesof graduates (B = −0.26, β = −0.43, z = −8.07, 95%CI [−0.68, −0.16], P = 0.01). Alcohol intake has apositive contribution to the mental stress of graduates (R2 = 0.797, 95%CI [0.77, 0.825], P = 0.01).Mental stress and psychotic experiences jointly mediated the relationship between alcohol intakeand graduates’ job performance.CONCLUSION: It was concluded that high intake of alcohol and high levels of mental stress andpsychotic experiences significantly reduce graduates’ job performance generally and in specificaspects. Alcohol intake can increase graduates’ job performance to a small extent depending onthe amount consumed.

Read More BACKGROUND: Responsibility of individuals in adapting to life events depends on the intertwinedcooperation of intellectual and emotional capacities, and a person’s success in life depends on hisemotional responses. Given that health‑care providers are at the forefront of providing health services,they need to improve their job performance with better control of their emotions and better socialrelationships. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence,social responsibility, and job performance in health‑care providers and caregivers.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross‑sectional correlational study was performed on 270 healthworkers working in the western cities of Isfahan province in the first quarter of 1998 by randomclassification sampling method. To collect information, two questionnaires of Bradbury emotionalintelligence, responsibility, social responsibility, whose validity and reliability had been proven inprevious studies, and job performance scores of the samples were used. The collected data wereanalyzed using descriptive tests and Pearson correlation.RESULTS: The participants were 270 health workers and caregivers with a mean age of 34.54 ± 7.26.87.5% of the samples were female and 21.5% were male. The mean score of social responsibilitywas 124.95 ± 10.41, the mean score of emotional intelligence was 125.58 ± 15.86, and the meanscore of job performance was 86.91 ± 9.0.18. The results of Pearson correlation showed that all fourcomponents of social responsibility and total emotional intelligence have a significant correlation atthe level of 0.01. Total emotional intelligence and each of its components did not show a significantcorrelation with job performance. Between social responsibility and job performance of health workers,only the moral component significantly predicts job performance (r = 0.133 and P = 0.026).CONCLUSION: Although the results of the study showed that the job performance, socialresponsibility, and emotional intelligence of the study group were desirable, the score of somecomponents of social responsibility and emotional intelligence is lower than their maximum score.In addition, according to the results of the study that showed the relationship between emotionalintelligence and social responsibility and some of their components with job performance, improvingthe knowledge and skills of health‑care providers and caregivers in the field of social responsibilityand emotional intelligence and their components seems necessary.
