Read More Background: Understanding of the medical society’s from the types of information resources for quickand easy access to information is an imperative task in medical researches and management of thetreatment. The present study was aimed to determine the level of awareness of the physicians in usingvarious electronic information resources and the factors affecting it. Materials and Methods: This studywas a descriptive survey. The data collection tool was a researcher‑made questionnaire. The studypopulation included all the physicians and specialty physicians of the teaching hospitals affiliatedto Isfahan University of Medical Sciences and numbered 350. The sample size based on Morgan’sformula was set at 180. The content validity of the tool was confirmed by the library and informationprofessionals and the reliability was 95%. Descriptive statistics were used including the SPSSsoftware version 19. Results: On reviewing the need of the physicians to obtain the informationon several occasions, the need for information in conducting the researches was reported by themaximum number of physicians (91.9%) and the usage of information resources, especially theelectronic resources, formed 65.4% as the highest rate with regard to meeting the informationneeds of the physicians. Among the electronic information databases, the maximum awarenesswas related to Medline with 86.5%. Among the various electronic information resources, the highestawareness (43.3%) was related to the E‑journals. The highest usage (36%) was also from the samesource. The studied physicians considered the most effective deterrent in the use of electronicinformation resources as being too busy and lack of time. Conclusion: Despite the importanceof electronic information resources for the physician’s community, there was no comprehensiveknowledge of these resources. This can lead to less usage of these resources. Therefore, carefulplanning is necessary in the hospital libraries in order to introduce the facilities and full capabilitiesof the mentioned resources and methods of information retrieval.

Read More Background: Patients, as one of the most prominent groups requiring health‑based information,encounter numerous problems in order to obtain these pieces of information and apply them. Theaim of this study was to determine the information‑seeking behavior of cardiovascular patients whowere hospitalized in Isfahan University of Medical Sciences hospitals. Materials and Methods: Thisis a survey research. The population consisted of all patients with cardiovascular disease whowere hospitalized in the hospitals of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences during 2012.According to the statistics, the number of patients was 6000. The sample size was determinedbased on the formula of Cochran; 400 patients were randomly selected. Data were collectedby researcher‑made questionnaire. Two‑level descriptive statistics and inferential statistics wereused for analysis. Results: The data showed that the awareness of the probability to recoverand finding appropriate medical care centers were the most significant informational needs.The practitioners, television, and radio were used more than the other informational resources.Lack of familiarity to medical terminologies and unaccountability of medical staff were the majorobstacles faced by the patients to obtain information. The results also showed that there was nosignificant relationship between the patients’ gender and information‑seeking behavior, whereasthere was a significant relationship between the demographic features (age, education, place ofresidence) and information‑seeking behavior. Conclusion: Giving information about health to thepatients can help them to control their disease. Appropriate methods and ways should be usedbased on patients’ willingness. Despite the variety of information resources, patients expressedmedical staff as the best source for getting health information. Information‑seeking behavior ofthe patients was found to be influenced by different demographic and environmental factors.
