Multidimensional perfectionism trends among various core and allied health care professionals in a major Indian metropolitan city of Western India

Read More BACKGROUND: This exploratory study was done to assess the multidimensional perfectionismtrends among various core and allied health care professionals in a major Indian metropolitan city ofwestern India. Unlike other scales, here we considered both individual and intersubjective componentsof perfectionism by introducing three trait dimensions – self‑oriented perfectionism, other‑orientedperfectionism, and socially prescribed perfectionism.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross‑sectional descriptive type of study was conducted with totalsample consisting of 500 participants with the main motive of evaluation and comparison of themultidimensional perfectionism among interns of the core and allied health care professionals fromfields of medicine, dentistry, ayurveda, and homeopathy residing in the major Indian metropolitancities of western India.RESULTS: This study showed that under the self‑oriented domain, highest mean score is of medicalfaculty (73.97). In other‑oriented domain, dental (62.62) and homeopathy (62.38) professionals havealmost similar mean. Lowest being of ayurveda (61.65) compared to the highest score of the medicalfraternity (67.62). In the socially prescribed domain, medical professionals (65.53) have the highestmean though it is the lowest mean value of the medical faculty compared to other two domains.Chi‑square test is applied to the data for the questions among all the three domains. Correlation hasbeen deduced by applying Pearson’s correlation to the collected data from the study. The degree ofcorrelation between self‑oriented with self‑oriented is 1, self‑oriented with other‑oriented is 0.763,and that of self‑oriented with socially oriented is 0.678.CONCLUSION: Medical professionals scoring maximum in self‑oriented perfectionism compared toother two domains reflect their extreme personal standards. Medical professionals are followed bydental professionals in self oriented perfectionism who are demanded of perfection in their routinepractice. Ayurveda and homeopathy professionals scored better in other‑oriented and sociallyprescribed perfectionism attributing to their sentiments of fulfilling the expectations and demandsof others.

Read More BACKGROUND: Change is a multidimensional and pervasive issue in the modern world, andorganizations are constantly changing in social, cultural, political, economic, and technological fields.Change leadership is a model that employs a combination of leadership styles to keep the employeesand the organization prepared for learning and continuous growth. This study aims to identify thedimensions and components of change leadership in medical sciences education to move towardthird‑generation universities through a qualitative approach.MATERIALS AND METHODS: The present study was an applied explorative qualitative study.Participants included the experts in the field of management and key informants in the field of changeleadership and third‑generation universities who were selected through purposive sampling. Theresearch tool was semi‑structured interviews aimed at the identification of dimensions and componentsof the change leadership. Interview‑guided questions were about change leadership to move towardthe third‑generation universities followed by probing questions. Colaizzi content analysis techniquewas used to analyze the data.RESULTS: Data from interview transcript analysis resulted in the identification of 335 initial codes,13 subcategories, and 3 categories or dimensions. The main categories included “change leadershiproles and specifications,” “providing a context and preparing for change,” and “change leadershipprocess and path.” Each of the main dimensions included several components.CONCLUSION: The importance of leadership in the process of change is since change entails theestablishment and institutionalization of new systems and structures which is impossible withoutan effective leadership style. Leaders have high expectations of their followers and inspire themto strive toward organizational goals and facilitate the realization of the shared vision throughencouraging them. As a leadership paradigm for organization performance improvement capableof encouraging employees and building an organizational culture in which ethical procedures areconsidered behavioral norms, change leadership seeks to predict the environment changes so thatit can move in accordance with them.

Read More INTRODUCTION: Internationalization of higher education involves mutual exchanges as well as aconsensus based. Political, economic, sociocultural, and scientific reasons recommend the need tomove toward the internationalization of higher education. The current study highlights the strengthsof the internationalization of Iran’s medical sciences education.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive exploratory study was carried out in 2016–2017 inIran. The techniques used for data collection included review of articles, interview with subject experts,and the focus group and the nominal technique group to explore the views of various stakeholders.The data were analyzed with the qualitative content analysis method.RESULTS: The inductive qualitative content analysis of all data generated 13 categories and 88subcategories. The categories were geographical and geostrategic position of Iran; the historical,cultural, religious, and tourist attractions of Iran; the security of Iran; priority to internationalizationpolicies and programs in Iran’s macro plans; the existence of regulations, laws, and approvals forinternational activities; same language with neighboring and regional countries; the low cost ofstudying and living in Iran; the ability of Iranian faculty members and experts for internationalization;the background, reputation, and the progress of medical education, health, and care in Iran; thecheaper forces of Iran and their welcome to foreigners; the existence of motivation, zeal, and belieffor internationalization; the existence of proper infrastructure; and the existence of a suitable capacityfor internationalization.CONCLUSIONS: Iran has some positive points that can be used to promote international activities,provided it does some good advertising in this regard. It is suggested that the challenges, opportunities,and threats to Iran’s internationalization should be collated from the perspective of the variousstakeholders.
