Read More BACKGROUND: E‑learning is web‑based learning for education and training. The current globalpandemic crisis created due to COVID‑19 has made worldwide online learning. This study aimed toinvestigate the level of satisfaction and quality of E‑learning in medical universities from the students’point of view during the epidemic of COVID‑19 and assessing the obstacles and solutions proposedto improve the quality of E‑learning.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross‑sectional, web‑based study was conducted among 400medical university students of Iran during the epidemic of COVID‑19. After getting written consent,three parts questionnaire contains demographic, user satisfaction, quality questionnaire, and threeopen‑ended questions were distributed randomly using social media. Descriptive analysis, t‑test,Chi‑square, and Pearson correlation coefficient were used to achieve the objective of this study, withsignificance set to P < 0.05. Furthermore, three open‑ended questions were reviewed qualitativelyand the problems and solutions suggested by the students were reported.RESULTS: Based on the findings of the descriptive section, 277 of the respondents were girls (69%)with a mean age of 21 ± 2 years. Sixty‑nine percent of students were studying in medical sciencesuniversities and 31% were studying in Islamic Azad University. The level of satisfaction was in theupper range of low (34.0 ± 10.0); P < 0.001, and intention to reuse was moderate (23.06 ± 6.0);P = 0.064. Student’s perception of quality in most domains was in the upper range of low to medium.User satisfaction, intention to reuse, the quality of knowledge, and participatory quality for evaluatingonline courses were significantly higher in the Azad University group than in medical universities.CONCLUSION: Given that this is the first experience in the use of E‑learning in Iran, both universitieshave not yet fully succeeded in satisfying students and it is necessary to increase the quality ofE‑learning based on student suggestions.

Read More BACKGROUND: Since the purpose of medicine science is health promotion, education of this groupis very important. The use of new evaluation methods is one of the first educational needs. Giventhat many conventional clinical evaluation methods are not able to fully evaluation students in theclinical settings and only evaluate limited information, This study is designed to evaluate the impactof direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) and mini‑clinical evaluation exercise (mini‑CEX)on nursing students and their clinical satisfaction skills.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This quasi‑experimental study was conducted in 2018 to evaluatethe dialysis unit of the 6th semester nursing students of Babol University of Medical Sciences in Iran.Samples were selected by the census method and then random allocation. Data collection wasperformed using two questionnaires and two checklists to evaluate the clinical skills and satisfactionof the two groups of testing and control. Moreover, the data were analysed with using the SPSSsoftware (version 18, IBM SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) through the descriptive and analyticalstatistics (Chi‑square test and t‑test).RESULTS: The results showed that the intervention group compared with the control evaluation scoreof 13/73 ± 2/44, 11/74 ± 2/43, P < 0.002, respectively. Furthermore, the mean score of satisfaction ofthe intervention group with the DOPS method compared to the traditional method of the control groupwas 72/50 ± 7/31, 63/48 ± 9/31, P < 0.001, respectively. As well as, the mean score of satisfactionwith the mini‑CEX method of the intervention group compared to the traditional method of the controlgroup was 73/28 ± 7/78, 63/48 ± 9/31, P < 0.002, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed that students who were evaluated by DOPSand mini‑CEX methods had a higher score of clinical performance evaluation and higher level ofsatisfaction. Nursing professors can improve the learning process and the satisfaction of nursingstudents by using direct feedback on such evaluation methods.

Read More INTRODUCTION: HIV/AIDS is a serious challenge globally. A plethora of morbidities due to cripplingimmune system reduces quality of life (QOL). The advent of highly active antiretroviral treatmenthas changed this deadly disease to a chronic manageable illness with focus shifting from fightingvirus to ensuring a good QOL.OBJECTIVE: To assess the QOL among people living with HIV/AIDS (PLHA) and factors influencing,if any in Indian setting.MATERIALS AND METHODS: An institutional‑based cross‑sectional study was carried out among220 PLHA (male >15 years) attending Anti‑Retroviral Therapy Centre of the center of excellencein HIV care in India (Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine, Kolkata) from May 2012 to April 2013.QOL was assessed using WHO‑QOL‑BREF questionnaire from January 2013 to December 2013.Statistical analysis was done using SPSS version 16; multivariate logistic regression was computedwith adjusted odds ratio in 95% confidence interval; P < 0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS: In this study, all 220 PLHA men participated (response rate 96.5%) where more thanhalf (55.5%) participants rated their QOL as neither poor nor good; only 28.2% replied good.One‑third (38.6%) were dissatisfied while only one‑fifth (19.1%) satisfied and 41.4% mentioned neithersatisfied nor dissatisfied with their health. Mean score ± standard deviation on various domains andfacets of WHOQOL‑BREF were physical health score 56.2 ± 9.8, psychological health 63.1 ± 8.7,social relationship 48.9 ± 14.8, and environmental health 51.3 ± 13.7.CONCLUSION: PLHA had good QOL on psychological, physical, and environmental domain thatreflects better services provided at Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine (CSTM), Kolkata, but theyscored poorly in social relationship domain, which may be suggestive of ineffective social servicesnetwork. This study concludes that increase existing social and emotional support with innovationshould be implemented to improve their QOL.
