Read More BACKGROUND: This study aimed to investigate how medical students perceive their educationalenvironment, as well as the implications of motivation, learning strategies, and the factor of emotionalintelligence on academic achievement.MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a cross‑sectional study, 3384 undergraduate students wererecruited from randomly selected Egyptian medical colleges. Students from second to final year, takingfundamental and clinical courses and, at a minimum, three professional exams, were enrolled andsubjected to the Dundee Ready Educational Environment Measure scale, the Motivated Strategiesfor Learning Questionnaire, and Emotional intelligence questionnaire.RESULTS: The overall mean age of the studied students was 21.42 ± 1.61 years. Femalesrepresented 63.5%, rural residents were 52.2% and students with enough income represented 88.0%.The traditional system adopted 28.4% of the students versus 71.6% in the integrated system. Linearregression using path analysis was conducted to study the predictors of academic achievement, andit revealed that motivation was the highly significant predictor of academic achievement (β = 2.68,CI95%:2.35–3.05, P < 0.001), followed by learning (β = 1.09, CI95%:0.80–1.41, P < 0.001), emotionalintelligence (β = 0.92, CI95%:0.87–0.97, P < 0.001), and the educational environment (β = 0.14,CI95%:0.13–0.15, P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: The study’s findings have implications for medical educators trying to understand thepersonal factors that influence learning and performance in medical school. Students’ motivation wasthe highly significant predictor of academic achievement followed by learning, emotional intelligence,and educational environment. Perception of the learning environment had improved because ofthe integrated student‑centered system, which fosters motivation and emotional intelligence. Toimprove learners’ EI, optimal learning, and educational outcomes, the EI components can be taughtand fostered.

Read More BACKGROUND: Responsibility of individuals in adapting to life events depends on the intertwinedcooperation of intellectual and emotional capacities, and a person’s success in life depends on hisemotional responses. Given that health‑care providers are at the forefront of providing health services,they need to improve their job performance with better control of their emotions and better socialrelationships. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence,social responsibility, and job performance in health‑care providers and caregivers.MATERIALS AND METHODS: A cross‑sectional correlational study was performed on 270 healthworkers working in the western cities of Isfahan province in the first quarter of 1998 by randomclassification sampling method. To collect information, two questionnaires of Bradbury emotionalintelligence, responsibility, social responsibility, whose validity and reliability had been proven inprevious studies, and job performance scores of the samples were used. The collected data wereanalyzed using descriptive tests and Pearson correlation.RESULTS: The participants were 270 health workers and caregivers with a mean age of 34.54 ± 7.26.87.5% of the samples were female and 21.5% were male. The mean score of social responsibilitywas 124.95 ± 10.41, the mean score of emotional intelligence was 125.58 ± 15.86, and the meanscore of job performance was 86.91 ± 9.0.18. The results of Pearson correlation showed that all fourcomponents of social responsibility and total emotional intelligence have a significant correlation atthe level of 0.01. Total emotional intelligence and each of its components did not show a significantcorrelation with job performance. Between social responsibility and job performance of health workers,only the moral component significantly predicts job performance (r = 0.133 and P = 0.026).CONCLUSION: Although the results of the study showed that the job performance, socialresponsibility, and emotional intelligence of the study group were desirable, the score of somecomponents of social responsibility and emotional intelligence is lower than their maximum score.In addition, according to the results of the study that showed the relationship between emotionalintelligence and social responsibility and some of their components with job performance, improvingthe knowledge and skills of health‑care providers and caregivers in the field of social responsibilityand emotional intelligence and their components seems necessary.

If marriage does not provide suitable conditions to satisfy couple’sneeds, not only it does not help to mental health but also results in negative and irreversible effects.AIMS: This research was performed with the aim of determining the impact of emotional intelligencetraining on marital satisfaction, sexual quality of life, and psychological well‑being of women.SETTINGS AND DESIGN: The present research is an experimental study conducted on 70 womenreferring to community health centers of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2019.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The sampling was performed using multistage cluster sampling.Before implementing the training intervention, the research instruments (general questionnaire,Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale, Iranian version of Sexual Quality of Life‑Female questionnaire,and World Health Organization Five Well‑Being Index) were provided to the participants in orderto complete them. All participants recompleted the instruments immediately and 1 month after thetraining intervention.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: The significance level was considered as P < 0.05.RESULTS: The mean scores of marital satisfaction in the control group had no significant differencebefore, immediately after, and 1 month after the intervention (P = 0.895). However, in the interventiongroup, over time, the mean scores of marital satisfaction increased (P = 0.001), and the differencebetween the two groups was significant (P < 0.001). The mean scores of sexual quality of life andpsychological well‑being had no significant differences before, immediately after, and 1 month afterthe intervention in the control group. However, in the intervention group, over time, the mean scoresof sexual quality of life and psychological well‑being firstly increased and then decreased (P < 0.001),and the difference between the two groups was significant (P < 0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Training the components of emotional intelligence can be effective on enhancingmarital satisfaction, sexual quality of life, and psychological well‑being of women.

Stressand other health problems may lead to occupational burnout and reduction of nurses’ efficiency.The aim of the current study is to investigate the effect of emotional intelligence training on healthpromotion of nurses in Sabzevar Hospitals.METHODOLOGY: The current study is a field trial with a random control group. The samplegroup was 135 nurses of Sabzevar Hospitals. They were then divided randomly into experimentaland control groups. First, all of the samples answered the questionnaire of personal information,Bar‑On Emotional Intelligence, and General Health Questionnaire. The first group (intervention)was trained by giving the speech, and the second group (control) did not receive any interventionabout the subject of the study. The experimental group was then trained for the componentsof emotional intelligence and answered the questionnaire again. The significance level wasconsidered as P < 0.05.RESULTS: The results showed that the distribution of qualitative variables in the study was similarand also the scores of emotional intelligence and the dependent variables after intervention in theintervention group had a significant and inverse relationship, meaning that the score of emotionalintelligence decreased with the score of general health score. This could be significant in comparisonto the two groups. Findings showed that emotional intelligence at the beginning of the study inthe intervention and control groups were 35.03 ± 32 and 30.89 ± 33, respectively, and after theintervention, it was 29.68 ± 35 and 42.89 ± 34, respectively. Total general health was 19.76 ± 84 and18.77 ± 77 in the case group before intervention and 14.55 ± 56 in the case group and 17.68 ± 52in the control group, respectively (P < 0.001).CONCLUSION: Findings indicated the significant mutual effect of emotional intelligence changesand general health variables. It means as the score of emotional intelligence gets more, health scoredecreases and the rate of general health increases.

Emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence are psychological variables that affectmarital satisfaction or dissatisfaction. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship betweenspiritual and emotional intelligence and sexual satisfaction of married women.METHODS: A cross‑sectional correlation study was conducted on 200 married women referring toLar health centers in 2017. Sampling was available in a way. The research units completed the KingSpiritual Intelligence Questionnaire, Shoot Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire, Sexual Satisfactionand Beck Depression if they had inclusion criteria and written consent. Finally, the data were analyzedby Spearman statistical tests.RESULTS: The results of the Spearman test showed that there is a positive and significantrelationship between emotional intelligence and sexual satisfaction (P = 0.001), with increasedemotional intelligence and sexual satisfaction. The results of the study of emotional intelligencecomponents showed that only the emotional adjustment component had a significant relationshipwith sexual satisfaction. The results also showed that there is a significant relationship betweenspiritual intelligence and sexual satisfaction and the components of transcendental consciousness,transcendental alertness, and personal meaningfulness with sexual satisfaction (P = 0.001).CONCLUSION: According to the results of this study and given that one of the duties of midwives isto provide counseling on sexual health, they can raise individual awareness, or group or educationalclasses, through awareness‑raising campaigns for women, improving sexual relations and followingare family health. midwives can enhance their spiritual intelligence, emotional intelligence, women’sawareness, and sexual intercourse through counseling sessions (individually, in groups, or classes).All of the above can be a source of family health.

The aim of the present study isto investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence health and marital satisfactionamong married people. Materials and Methods: The research method is descriptive- analyticand its design is comparative, done on 226 people including 114 persons (50 women and64 men) having marital conflicts, and 112 people (58 women and 54 men) having maritalsatisfaction, by cluster random sampling from 13 districts of the city of Isfahan. Bar-on (with90 questions) and Enrich marital satisfaction (115 questions) questionnaires were usedfor collecting the required information. The data was analyzed using descriptive statisticsincluding independent t-tests, Pearson correlation, and linear regression analysis, usingSPSS software version 19. Results: The results from the research showed that the scores ofemotional intelligence in married people group having marriage conflicts who had referred tothe administration of justice was 57.3 ± 13.2, and the random sample from the married peoplein the city of Isfahan as the comparing group had the score of 67.2 ± 9.5, and the difference ofthe average scores for the emotional intelligence for the two groups was significant (P < 0.001).The correlation analysis showed that there was a significant and positive relation betweenemotional intelligence and marital satisfaction (P < 0.001, r = 0.529). The results of linearregression also showed that the general emotional intelligence predicts the quality of maritalsatisfaction. The emotion of the predicting line of the marital satisfaction score (y) is in the formof: y = 14.8 + 0.656x, by using the emotional intelligence score (x). Conclusion: Regardingthe close relations between emotional intelligence and marital satisfaction, education centerssuch as universities, organizations and family clinics could use this variable in micro- andmacro-social plans for improving the quality of the married people relations and promotinghealth of the families and the society.
