Effects of Rosa damascena (Damask rose) on menstruation‑related pain, headache, fatigue, anxiety, and bloating: A systematic review and meta‑analysis of randomized controlled trials

Read More Recent studies have reported inconclusive results regarding the therapeutic effects of Rosadamascena on the outcomes of primary dysmenorrhea (PD) and premenstrual syndrome (PMS).Hence, this study is aimed to summarize the findings of randomized controlled trials (RCTs)regarding the effects of this treatment on menstruation‑related pain as the primary outcome andmenstruation‑related headache, fatigue, anxiety, and bloating as the secondary outcomes. Thisstudy evaluated parallel‑group and cross‑over RCTs on aromatherapy, topical treatment, ororal intake of R. damascena products for the treatment groups versus placebo, nontreated, orconventional treatment groups. Seven electronic databases (Web of Science Core Collection,Scopus, Embase, CENTRAL, CINAHL, SID, and MagIran) and one search engine (PubMed) weresearched from inception to January 15, 2021. Of 1468 trials found in the initial search, 983 potentiallyrelevant articles were screened by title and abstract. After examining the full‑text of 13 studies forcompliance with the inclusion criteria, seven studies were considered eligible for this review. Arandom‑effects model was used to pool the data; otherwise, a narrative summary was presented.The retrieved studies were conducted on females with PD or PMS, aged 18–35 years. The totalsample size of the intervention and comparator arms was 276 and 272. The results showed thatR. damascena had a nonsignificant alleviating effect on the menstruation‑related pain (weightedmean difference [WMD]: −0.47; 95% confidence interval [CI]: −1.25, 0.31; P = 0.234). Such findingswere also found for menstruation‑related anxiety (WMD: −0.40; 95% CI: −0.91, 0.11; P = 0.125).However, the treatment significantly reduced the menstruation‑related headache (WMD: −0.42;95% CI: −0.74, −0.11; P = 0.008), fatigue (WMD: −0.48; 95% CI: −0.87, −0.09; P = 0.015), andbloating (WMD: −0.72; 95% CI: −1.21, −0.22; P = 0.005). Since R. damascena had no significanteffects on menstruation‑related pain and anxiety, further studies with improved methodologicalquality are suggested to evaluate the effects of the treatment on these symptoms, using differentdosages and durations.

Read More BACKGROUND: Since the purpose of medicine science is health promotion, education of this groupis very important. The use of new evaluation methods is one of the first educational needs. Giventhat many conventional clinical evaluation methods are not able to fully evaluation students in theclinical settings and only evaluate limited information, This study is designed to evaluate the impactof direct observation of procedural skills (DOPS) and mini‑clinical evaluation exercise (mini‑CEX)on nursing students and their clinical satisfaction skills.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This quasi‑experimental study was conducted in 2018 to evaluatethe dialysis unit of the 6th semester nursing students of Babol University of Medical Sciences in Iran.Samples were selected by the census method and then random allocation. Data collection wasperformed using two questionnaires and two checklists to evaluate the clinical skills and satisfactionof the two groups of testing and control. Moreover, the data were analysed with using the SPSSsoftware (version 18, IBM SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA) through the descriptive and analyticalstatistics (Chi‑square test and t‑test).RESULTS: The results showed that the intervention group compared with the control evaluation scoreof 13/73 ± 2/44, 11/74 ± 2/43, P < 0.002, respectively. Furthermore, the mean score of satisfaction ofthe intervention group with the DOPS method compared to the traditional method of the control groupwas 72/50 ± 7/31, 63/48 ± 9/31, P < 0.001, respectively. As well as, the mean score of satisfactionwith the mini‑CEX method of the intervention group compared to the traditional method of the controlgroup was 73/28 ± 7/78, 63/48 ± 9/31, P < 0.002, respectively.CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed that students who were evaluated by DOPSand mini‑CEX methods had a higher score of clinical performance evaluation and higher level ofsatisfaction. Nursing professors can improve the learning process and the satisfaction of nursingstudents by using direct feedback on such evaluation methods.

Read More CONTEXT: Emotional communications play an important role in having a satisfying relationshipand a more successful marriage. If marriage does not provide suitable conditions to satisfy couple’sneeds, not only it does not help to mental health but also results in negative and irreversible effects.AIMS: This research was performed with the aim of determining the impact of emotional intelligencetraining on marital satisfaction, sexual quality of life, and psychological well‑being of women.SETTINGS AND DESIGN: The present research is an experimental study conducted on 70 womenreferring to community health centers of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in 2019.SUBJECTS AND METHODS: The sampling was performed using multistage cluster sampling.Before implementing the training intervention, the research instruments (general questionnaire,Kansas Marital Satisfaction Scale, Iranian version of Sexual Quality of Life‑Female questionnaire,and World Health Organization Five Well‑Being Index) were provided to the participants in orderto complete them. All participants recompleted the instruments immediately and 1 month after thetraining intervention.STATISTICAL ANALYSIS USED: The significance level was considered as P < 0.05.RESULTS: The mean scores of marital satisfaction in the control group had no significant differencebefore, immediately after, and 1 month after the intervention (P = 0.895). However, in the interventiongroup, over time, the mean scores of marital satisfaction increased (P = 0.001), and the differencebetween the two groups was significant (P < 0.001). The mean scores of sexual quality of life andpsychological well‑being had no significant differences before, immediately after, and 1 month afterthe intervention in the control group. However, in the intervention group, over time, the mean scoresof sexual quality of life and psychological well‑being firstly increased and then decreased (P < 0.001),and the difference between the two groups was significant (P < 0.001).CONCLUSIONS: Training the components of emotional intelligence can be effective on enhancingmarital satisfaction, sexual quality of life, and psychological well‑being of women.
