Read More Background: Violence is now regarded as a serious problem and its complication causes heavycosts on the healthcare systems. The present study aimed to investigate the correlation betweensome demographic characteristics and confrontation with violence. Since there is no study onthe prevalence of violence among the support and administration staff of hospitals in Iran, thisstudy was conducted to investigate violence in these departments. Materials and Methods: Thisdescriptive–analytical and correlation survey was carried out by census among the support andadministrative staff interacting with patients and their companions in Al‑Zahra University Hospitalof Isfahan in 2013. Research tool was a researcher‑made questionnaire including five domains:Personal information, workplace information, verbal violence, physical violence, and other violentacts. Its validity was evaluated by experts reviewing it and its reliability by test–retest (r = 0.9).Finally, data were analyzed using descriptive statistical indicators and statistical tests such asChi‑square for sex, marital status, and work department and Mann–Whitney U test for age, levelof education, work experience, and violence types by the statistical software SPSS version 20.Results: According to the results obtained, 81% of subjects had been abused at least onceand the most reported violence was related to verbal violence (78.4%). There was significantcorrelation between sex and violence and men were the main victims of violence, but there wasno relation between marital status, age, and violence. Work experience was correlated to physicalviolence and other violent acts conversely. There was also an inverse correlation between physicalviolence and education; also, security staff faced more violence than others. Conclusion: Ashigh prevalence of violence was found especially among the security staff and personnel withless education and work experience, it is suggested to take actions such as educating aboutpatient accompaniment and visiting condition, holding training workshops on confronting withviolence and appropriate communication with patients and families, using experienced andpatient staff to interact with clients.

Read More Introduction: Cultural intelligence and social compatibility are two acquired processes that theireducation and reinforcement between dormitory’s students who have inter cultural interactionswith each other can conclude with results that tension diminution, inter cultural contrast andconflict, social divisions and consequently healthy and peaceful relationships and governanceand finally mental peace, and health are of its most important. Hence, the research has beenoccurring in order to the determination of cultural intelligence relationship with the socialcompatibility of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences dormitories resident students in 2012.Materials and Methods: The research method is descriptive‑correlation, and its populationis composed of all Isfahan University of Medical Sciences dormitories resident students in2012 that were totally 2500 persons. The two steps sampling method have been used, groupsampling and random sampling has been occurring at first and second steps and totally 447persons were selected. Research data were collected via Earley and Ang cultural intelligencequestionnaire with 0.76 Cronbach’s alpha Coefficient and California social compatibility standardquestionnaire with higher than 0.70 Cronbach’s alpha factor. Questionnaire data have beenanalyzed with the SPSS software and results have been presented in the shape of descriptionsand statistics. Findings: Results showed that there is a direct significant relationship (P < 0.001)between cultural intelligence and the social adjustment in students living in Isfahan Universityof Medical Sciences dormitories and also there is a direct significant relationship in the levelof (P < 0.05) between cognitive and motivational dimensions of cultural intelligence; however,there is no significant relationship between cognitive and behavioral dimensions of culturalintelligence and social adjustment (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Cultural intelligence and cognitiveand motivational addition in dimensions of students living in Isfahan University of MedicalSciences dormitories increase their social integration, therefore, cultural intelligence and socialadjustment of students can be increased through planning and we can try for their mentalhealth by this way.

Read More Background: Today, much attention has been paid to the patient role as the central factor in themanagement of their own health. It is focused on the issue that the patient has a more critical rolecompared with the health-care provider in controlling the patient own health. defines health literacyas the degree to which individuals have the capacity to obtain, process, and understand basic healthinformation and services needed to make appropriate health decisions. Objective: The objective ofthis study was to determine health literacy, health status, healthcare utilization and the relationshipbetween them in 18 - 64 years old people in Isfahan. Structure and Design: This study was adescriptive analytical survey, which was conducted on 300 subjects of 18-64 years old in Isfahanwith Multi-stage sampling method proportional to selected sample size. Materials and Methods:For collecting the data, questionnaire adapted from CHAP (Consumer Assessment of HealthcareProviders and Systems) health literacy questionnaire was used. Health status was measured basedon an assessment of the physical and mental health over the past 6 months by 5° Likert scale. Dataanalysis was performed by using SPSS 18, descriptive statistics, Chi-square test and multivariateanalysis of variance. Results: There was no significant correlation between health literacy, healthstatus and healthcare utilization. Utilization was less in the urban area No. 6 of the city. In thebachelor’s degree group, the health status was lower than the other groups in these cases: Olderages, married, women, large family size, undergraduates, and urban area No. 14. Conclusions:Due to the average prevalence of health literacy in 18-64 years old individuals in Isfahan and lowhealthcare utilization, the followings are recommended: Necessity of more attention to the issueof health literacy, improving the physician-patient relationship and community awareness, whetherthrough health promotion programs or media for the optimum use of available resources.

In order to make clear therelationship of information and communication technologies with social changes and to gaina broader vision from this scope, sociological theories about information and communicationtechnologies’ usage, especially appropriation approach can be very useful. So, keeping inmind the important role of Databases in the qualitative expansion of education, research,diagnosis, remedy and medical services presentation, this research was carried out withthe aim of status determination of databases appropriation in the academic staffs of IranianUniversities of Medical Sciences according to the social appropriation approach in 2012.Materials and Methods: This is an applicative research of an analytical‑descriptive type,which was carried out by measurement approach. The statistical society of this researchwas composed of the academic staffs of the Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences in2012 and finally 390 academic staffs were selected according to the Cochran’s formulawere selected. The research tool are searcher’s made questionnaire, which was composedof nine separate parts. Its validity was accepted by the specialists and its reliability wascalculated and found to be 0.961 by Cronbakh’s alpha. Results: Database appropriationscore in the academic staffs of Iranian Universities of Medical Sciences with 65.020% wasin a good status and data bases dis appropriation score with 71.484 was in a high status.Conclusion: According to the findings of this research, Librarians and politicians in thisscope‑with determination of the academic staff’s positive and negative points in usageand appropriation would be capable ofaccurately diagnozing and analyzing thechances and challenges of the academicstaffs members in using databases andwould also be capable of achieving solutionsand appropriate catalyzers of prolific usageand appropriation of databases.

Read More Introduction: Policy makers and decision makers must identify the stakeholders in medicaltourism, who will be affected by and/or affect this industry, and determine their statusfor partnership. The aim of this study was to identify the main stakeholders in Isfahan’smedical tourism, analyze them, and provide strategies for developing this industry.Materials and Methods: A qualitative study was conducted in 2011. At first, the key stakeholdersin medical tourism were identified in accordance with the experts’ idea and literature review.Then we interviewed the key stakeholders. Data analysis was conducted using the stakeholders’analyses, which helped in developing strategies. Results: The result showed that the keystakeholders were made up of nine groups. They included the provincial governance of Isfahan,the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization of Isfahan, the Chamber of Commerce, theMedical Council, the Isfahan University of Medical Sciences, health service providers, tourismservices providers, investors, and the Tosea Saderat Bank. The rate of knowledge of the CulturalHeritage and Tourism Organization of Isfahan, clinic and international relationship of IsfahanUniversity of Medical Sciences from government policy about medical tourism were verymuch. Private Hospitals, the Medical Council, investors, and the University of Medical Scienceshad great power. Private hospitals, clinics, the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization ofIsfahan, and the University of Medical Sciences were in the supporter position. The effectedstrategies were the included strategies, focused on increasing power; increasing support,and on maintaining the position. Conclusion: There are different stakeholders in the medicaltourism industry. Thus, policy makers can plan, make a policy and decision, and use effectivestrategies to develop medical tourism by designing a medical tourism stakeholders’ network,a medical tourism provincial council, and clarify the roles and responsibilities of stakeholders.
