Read More Background: Congenital hypothyroidism and phenylketonuria (PKU) are the most commoncause for preventable mental retardation in infants worldwide. Timely diagnosis and treatmentof these disorders can have lasting effects on the mental development of newborns. However,there are several problems at different stages of screening programs that along with imposingheavy costs can reduce the precision of the screening, increasing the chance of undiagnosedcases which in turn can have damaging consequences for the society. Therefore, given theseproblems and the importance of information systems in facilitating the management andimproving the quality of health care the aim of this study was to improve the screening processof hypothyroidism and PKU in infants with the help of electronic resources. Methods: Thecurrent study is a qualitative, action research designed to improve the quality of screening,services, performance, implementation effectiveness, and management of hypothyroidism andPKU screening program in Isfahan province. To this end, web‑based software was designed.Programming was carried out using Delphi.net software and used SQL Server 2008 for databasemanagement. Findings: Given the weaknesses, problems, and limitations of hypothyroidismand PKU screening program, and the importance of these diseases in a national scale, thisstudy resulted in design of hypothyroidism and PKU screening software for infants in Isfahanprovince. The inputs and outputs of the software were designed in three levels includingHealth Care Centers in charge of the screening program, provincial reference lab, and healthand treatment network of Isfahan province. Immediate registration of sample data at the timeand location of sampling, providing the provincial reference Laboratory and Health Centers ofdifferent eparchies with the ability to instantly observe, monitor, and follow‑up on the samplesat any moment, online verification of samples by reference lab, creating a daily schedule forreference lab, and receiving of the results from analysis equipment; and entering the resultsinto the database without the need for user input are among the features of this software.Conclusion: The implementation of hypothyroidism screening software led to an increase inthe quality and efficiency of the screening program; minimized the risk of human error in theprocess and solved many of the previous limitations of the screening program which werethe main goals for implementation of this software. The implementation of this software alsoresulted in improvement in precision and quality of services provided for these two diseasesand better accuracy and precision for datainputs by providing the possibility of enteringthe sample data at the place and time ofsampling which then resulted in the possibilityof management based on precise data and also helped develop a comprehensive databaseand improved the satisfaction of service recipients.

Read More Background: The aim of this research was to study the pathology of Isfahan Universityof Medical Sciences based on Weisbord six box model and to find its relation with mentalhealth. Materials and Methods: The research method followed was a descriptive survey.The statistical society consisted of all staffs of the Isfahan University of Medical Sciencesconsisting of professors in the year 2012 (personnel of deputy of treatment, deputy of training,cultural‑student deputy, supporting deputy, deputy of food and drugs, health deputy, and deputyof research). The number of subjects in the mentioned society was 1647, sample size was 332Based on Cochrane’s formula. They were selected by random sampling method in proportionwith the statistical society.The measurement instruments included organizational pathologyquestionnaire (ODQ) with 35 questions and the questionnaire of mental health standard [GeneralHealth Questionnaire (GHQ)] with 28 questions. The validity of the questionnaires obtainedfrom reviews by faculties and experts, and the reliability of the questionnaire assessedthrough Cronbach’s coefficient were 0.86, 0.85, and 0.76, respectively.To analyze data, thestatistical methods such as single‑variance t‑test, regression analysis, correlation coefficient,Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) were used.Findings: The findings of research demonstrated that the organizational damage based onsix box model was seen only in the reward component at the Isfahan University of MedicalSciences. Mental health of persons in the sample group of Isfahan University of Medical Scienceswas in the suitable status. There was a meaningful and positive interrelation between mentalhealth and attitude toward the organizational damages in the dimensions of communications,useful merchandises, and attitude to change. However, no meaningful interrelation was seenbetween aims, structure, leadership, and reward and mental health. There was no meaningfuldifference between the averages of staffs’ attitude about their mental health per the demographicproperties. Conclusions: The results show that there was a meaningful and positive interrelationbetween mental health and attitude toward the organizational damages in the dimensions ofcommunications, useful merchandises, and attitude to change. Therefore, managers shouldfocus on all parts of the organization and the pathology strengths and weaknesses in these areas.

Read More Introduction: Research self‑efficacy if the people’s judgment of their abilities in order toorganize and conduct meaningful research in different formats. The aim of this study is todeterminate the rate of research self‑efficacy among students of Isfahan University of MedicalSciences based on Research Self‑efficacy Scale. Materials and Methods: The method of thisstudy is an applied survey method. Statistical population is all students of Isfahan University ofMedical Sciences and the sample size was calculated to be 361 samples based on Krejcie andMorgan table. Random sampling method was used with equal number of samples from everydepartment. Data collection tool is Salehi et al. questionnaire (with 7 dimensions) with Likertscale (5 grades). Its validity and reliability were confirmed by Psychology and Research Methodexperts and Cronbach’s alpha (r = 0.84) respectively. Data gathering method was direct visit toeach department. The data was then analyzed using t‑test and one‑tailed ANOVA using SPSS 16software. Results: The finding showed that among research self‑efficiency dimensions researchethics dimension had the highest and quality research dimension had the lowest means.Furthermore comparing the research self‑efficacy scores with demographic characteristicssuggests that there is no significant difference between total score of research self‑efficacy ofdifferent departments, genders or educational degrees (P > 0.05). Conclusion: Since the scoreof most of the research self‑efficacy dimensions were, lower than average, holding periodicalworkshops, inclusion of necessary courses in the educational plan, forcing student to performresearch activity such as writing articles in lower educational levels and improvement of researchculture for students with the help of experienced professors are some of practical solutions,which can lead to increasing the motivation of the students for conducting efficient research.
