Read More BACKGROUND AND AIM: The inability of women to demand from their husbands, for not smoking,has been reported as a factor in exposure to cigarette smoke. This study aimed to investigate theperceived barriers and self‑efficacy of pregnant women regarding second‑hand smoke (SHS) at home.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This was a cross‑sectional study, and the sample size was 255pregnant women who visited the health‑care centers in Isfahan, Iran, from July 2018 to September2018, and were selected randomly and voluntarily. A questionnaire was designed to collect thedata about the exposure to smoke, perceived barriers, and self‑efficacy. The data were analyzedusing descriptive statistics (mean score and standard deviation), inferential statistics (nonparametricMann–Whitney and Kendall test), and Spearman’s correlation and regression.RESULTS: The mean score of self‑efficacy in the exposure group was lower than that the othergroup (P = 0.000). The mean score of perceived barrier was not a significant difference (P = 0.449).Personal perceived barriers are the most important predictor of self‑efficacy of pregnant womenin exposure to SHS (95% confidence interval: 0.013–0.262) (P = 0.030). Kendall test comparingitems within the group and Mann–Whitney test comparing the two groups showed that personalfactors such as “Unaware of the dangers of SHS and protective measures” for notexposed womenand environmental factor “the lack of ban smoking law at home” for exposed women are consideredthe most important barriers (P = 0.000). “Not being together a husband” (P = 0.293) and “going toanother place when smoking a husband” (P = 0.000) are the highest self‑efficacy items.CONCLUSIONS: It is necessary to develop training programs to increase self‑efficacy to avoidexposure to SHS and for both pregnant women and their husbands. It is also necessary to educateand inform about SHS and protective measures against it and to set up “smoking ban law” at homein our country to protect pregnant women.

Read More INTRODUCTION: Nowadays with respect to the automation of the lifestyle, immobility statisticsin middle‑aged women has increased and they are at risk for complications of immobility. One ofthe models used to identify factors associated with physical activity is Health Belief Model utilizedin different age and different cultural backgrounds and different results have been obtained fromthose studies. The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting on physical activityin middle‑aged women using Health Belief Model.MATERIALS AND METHODS: This descriptive‑correlation study was conducted on 224 middle‑agedwomen referring to health centers in Isfahan. Health Belief Model structures including perceivedsusceptibility and severity, perceived barriers and benefits, and self‑efficacy were measuredby questionnaire and physical activity was assessed using the international physical activityquestionnaire. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson correlationcoefficient test and regression analysis.RESULTS: There wasn’t significant correlation between perceived susceptibility (P = 0.263, r = 0.075)and perceived severity with physical activity duration (P = 0.127, r = 0.058) but there was positiveand weak correlation between physical activity duration with perceived benefits (P = 0.001 andr = 0.26) and perceived self‑efficacy (P = 0.001, r = 0.54) and had weak and inverse correlation withperceived barriers (P = 0.001, r = ‑0.25). Regression analysis also showed that from among all theHealth Belief Model structures just self‑efficacy structure has influenced on behavior independentlyand other structures are affected by it.CONCLUSION: The obtained results implied on a correlation between benefits, barriers and perceivedself‑efficacy with and moderate physical activity. Therefore it is necessary to develop appropriateeducational programs with emphasis on structures of Health Belief Model that has the maximumimpact on physical activity in middle‑aged women.

Read More Introduction: The process of assisted reproductive treatment is a stressful situation in thetreatment of infertile couples and it would harm the mental health of women. Fertile womenwho started infertility treatment due to male factor infertility have reported to experienceless stress and depression than other women before the assisted reproductive process butconsidering the cultural and social factors and also the etiology of the assisted reproductiveprocess, it could affect the metal health of these women. Therefore, this study was conductedto evaluate the mental health of fertile women who undergo assisted reproductive treatmentdue to male factor infertility. Materials and Methods: This study was a prospective study on70 fertile women who underwent assisted reproductive treatment due to male factor infertility.The exclusion criterion was to stop super ovulation induction. To assess mental health,anxiety and depression dimensions of the general health questionnaire were used. Beforestarting ovulation induction and after oocyte harvesting, the general health questionnairewas filled by women who were under treatment. Data were analyzed using multi‑variablelinear regression, paired t‑test, and Chi‑square. Results: The results showed that the meanscore of depression and anxiety before ovulation induction and after oocyte harvesting werenot significantly different; but the rate of mental health disorder in the depression dimensionwas significantly decreased after oocytes harvesting (31.7% vs. 39.7%). Also, there was asignificant relation between the level of anxiety and depression before ovulation induction andafter oocyte harvesting (P < 0.05). The anxiety level after oocyte harvesting had a positiveand significant correlation with the economic situation (P < 0.05). Conclusion: This studyrevealed that the process of assisted reproductive treatment does not affect the mental healthin fertile women independently, but these women start assisted reproductive process withhigh levels of depression and anxiety. Therefore, prior to the assisted reproductive treatmentmental health consultation is needed.
